The Horizontal-Vertical (H/V) Lumbar Valve System is the ONLY differential pressure valve for lumbo-peritoneal shunting available in the U. S., which addresses orthostatic overdrainage.

- Spring-actuated inlet valve controls lower pressure range while the patient is in horizontal position.
- Gravity-actuated outlet valve controls the higher-pressure range while the patient is in vertical position.
The H/V Lumbar Valve System comes in a complete procedure ready kit with antechamber, peritoneal and lumbar catheters. The antechamber can be readily mounted in-line with the valve for easy and safe access to CSF, with a large, easily located dome, which resists up to 250 punctures. In addition, for easy lumbar catheter placement, the lumbar catheter kit includes a guidewire and a Tuohy needle.
Selection of Pressure Ranges:
The horizontal pressure range should generally be selected according to the extent of the patient's ventricular enlargement. If ventricular enlargement is extreme, valve with lower horizontal pressure ranges are usually selected. If the degree of ventricular enlargement is minor, pressure should be selected on the basis of the patient's height from the base of the spine to the head.
